CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION This year's Emergencies in Primary Care conference is designed to provide physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses involved in primary care with
evidence-based information on commonly encountered office and hospital emergency dilemmas and suggest current approaches to clinical management. In addition to didactic lectures, ample time has been allotted for participant
feedback and interaction during the question and answer sessions.
Content for this year's conference has been selected based on past participant requests, clinical expert input, as well as our online needs assessment surveys of primary care and emergency medicine health care professionals.
Our outstanding faculty has been selected based on their
individual areas of expertise, their ability to communicate
first-hand knowledge to others, and their commitment to address issues of current concern to attendees.

Identify current treatment options for emerging infections
including MRSA
Describe the presentation and intervention of common
orthopedic emergencies such as fractures; knee, ankle or
shoulder injuries; and low back pain
Define and better treat and manage fever
Cite the pathophysiology & etiology of syncope and
distinguish who needs admission and who does not
Incorporate findings of recent toxicology literature into your
practice
Cite appropriate standards of care for the treatment of
emergencies in the elderly
Evaluate chest pain in the primary care setting; review
assessment and appropriate diagnostic options, evaluate
treatment strategies and timely follow-up
Better diagnose, treat and predict the prognosis of COPD
Discuss disaster management in a primary care practice
through lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT Physicians Application for Prescribed CME credit has also been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
Application has been made to the American College of Emergency Physicians for ACEP Category I credit.
