Glacier National Park contains two mountain ranges, over 130 named lakes, and more than 1,000 different species of plants and animals. This vast pristine ecosystem is the centerpiece of what has been referred to as the "Crown of the Continent" ecosystem, a region of protected land encompassing 16,000 miles. The famed Going-to-the-Sun road, a National Historic Engineering Landmark, traverses through the heart of the
park and crosses the Continental Divide, allowing visitors breathtaking views of the mountain ranges, as well as dense forests, alpine tundra, waterfalls and pristine lakes.
