CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION This comprehensive conference on fetal monitoring has been designed for physicians, nurses, nurse Our conference will integrate current clinical research with case studies and fetal heart tracings for content reinforcement. The conference is comprehensive and dynamic, and will include controversial issues relating to maternal-fetal assessment. The goal of this conference is to present current clinical data on key issues involved in electronic fetal surveillance and maternal-fetal assessment. Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on extensive target audience needs assessment data resulting from professional practice gaps in obstetrics. These gaps are identified by a variety of sources including feedback and evaluations from past participants, clinical expert input, Symposia Medicus’ online survey, and other medical and nursing data. Our outstanding faculty has been selected based on individual areas of expertise, ability to communicate first-hand knowledge to others, and commitment to address issues of current concern to attendees. This conference will also provide you with an opportunity to network with colleagues from across the country while enjoying exciting Las Vegas! CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES After participating in this conference, you should have an increased knowledge of, and be more competent to… • Identify the fetal heart rate patterns that require emergent delivery • Recognize ways to reduce liability & improve patient outcomes • Demonstrate increased efficacy in evaluating the newest technologies in fetal surveillance • Identify anesthesia & medication effects on the fetus MOCK TRIAL Friday’s program will be in the form of an interactive mock trial, based on an actual obstetric malpractice case involving fetal monitoring. Participants will be chosen as jury members, and a complete mock trial will ensue, including opening and closing statements, examination of defendant and expert witnesses, and jury deliberations resulting in a verdict. This is a unique opportunity for clinicians to gain a clear understanding of the legal process, learn to navigate the complexities of a malpractice suit from start to finish, and recognize the importance of a team approach to obstetrics. |
